Safeguarding Policy

1. Our Commitment
Seranora Care Ltd is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all people we support, including adults and children. We believe that every person has the right to live free from abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and is at the heart of everything we do.
2. Legislation & Guidance
Our safeguarding practice is underpinned by the following legislation and national guidance: the Care Act 2014; the Children Act 1989 and 2004; the Mental Capacity Act 2005; the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014; Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023; and the Care Quality Commission's fundamental standards.
3. Types of Abuse
We recognise all forms of abuse including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, neglect, discriminatory abuse, institutional abuse, self-neglect, domestic abuse and modern slavery. Our staff are trained to identify and respond to signs of abuse promptly and appropriately.
4. Designated Safeguarding Lead
Seranora Care Ltd has a designated Safeguarding Lead who is responsible for overseeing all safeguarding concerns, ensuring staff training is up to date, liaising with local safeguarding authorities, and maintaining safeguarding records in line with legal requirements.
5. Safeguarding Children
Where we provide care to children and young people (0–17), we follow the requirements of the Children Act 1989 and 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023. All staff working with children hold an enhanced DBS check including a barred list check. We have a Designated Safeguarding Lead for Children (DSLC) in post and work in partnership with local multi-agency safeguarding teams.
6. Staff Responsibilities
All Seranora Care staff are required to: complete safeguarding training appropriate to their role before commencing work; report any concerns about abuse or neglect immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead; maintain confidentiality while understanding when information must be shared to protect someone from harm; and cooperate fully with any safeguarding investigation.
7. Reporting a Concern
If you have a safeguarding concern about a person receiving care from Seranora Care Ltd, please contact us immediately. If someone is in immediate danger, always call 999 first. For non-emergency concerns, contact your local authority's Adult or Children's Social Care team, or speak to our Designated Safeguarding Lead directly.
8. Safer Recruitment
We follow safer recruitment practices for all staff. This includes enhanced DBS checks, barred list checks where applicable, two professional references, right to work checks, identity verification and a structured interview process designed to assess suitability to work with vulnerable people.
9. Whistleblowing
Seranora Care Ltd encourages all staff, clients and families to speak up if they have concerns about the conduct of any member of our team. We have a Whistleblowing Policy in place and will protect anyone who raises concerns in good faith. Concerns can be raised internally or directly with the Care Quality Commission.

Domiciliary care, also known as home care, is personal care and support provided to people in their own homes. It allows individuals to remain independent in familiar surroundings while receiving the help they need.
Who do you provide care for?
We provide care for people of all ages including older adults, adults with physical disabilities, adults with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, and children and young people with disabilities or complex needs. Our care plans are individually tailored to each person.

How much does home care cost?
The cost of home care varies depending on the level of support required, the frequency of visits and the complexity of care needs. Every individual is different, which is why we carry out a free assessment before providing a personalised quote. Are your carers DBS checked?
Yes. All Seranora Care staff hold an enhanced DBS check. Those working with children also have a barred list check. We follow safer recruitment practices and carry out thorough reference and right-to-work checks before any member of staff starts work.
Will I always have the same carer?
We aim to provide consistency by assigning a small team of regular carers to each client. We carefully match carers to clients based on personality, interests and care needs to help build a trusting and comfortable relationship.
What if I need care urgently?
We understand that care needs can arise quickly, for example following a hospital discharge. Please call us on 07427 008289 and we will do our best to arrange care as promptly as possible.

Any person who receives care from Seranora Care Ltd, or their representative, family member or advocate, may raise a complaint. We also welcome feedback from professionals working alongside us.
3. How to Raise a Complaint
Complaints can be made verbally, in writing or by email. Please contact us using any of the following:
We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 working days. A full investigation will be carried out and we aim to provide a written response within 20 working days. If more time is needed, we will keep you informed of progress and the expected timescale.
5. Resolution & Learning
Where a complaint is upheld, we will explain what went wrong, apologise sincerely, and tell you what steps we are taking to prevent a recurrence. All complaints are recorded and reviewed regularly to drive continuous improvement in our services.
6. If You Are Not Satisfied

Funding Your Care
Understanding your options
Paying for home care can feel overwhelming, but there are several ways to fund the support you or your loved one needs. At Seranora Care, we are happy to guide you through the options available and help you understand what you may be entitled to.
Self-Funding (Private Pay)
Many people choose to fund their own care privately. This gives you maximum flexibility and choice over your care provider and the services you receive. We offer a free assessment to help you understand exactly what level of support you need before committing to any arrangement.
Local Authority Funding
If you have eligible care needs and limited financial resources, your local council may contribute to the cost of your care following a needs assessment and financial assessment (means test). Contact your local Adult Social Care team to request a Care Act assessment and find out whether you qualify for funded support.
Direct Payments
If you are eligible for local authority funding, you may be able to receive this as a Direct Payment — money paid directly to you so that you can choose and manage your own care. This gives you greater control and flexibility. Please see our Direct Payments page for more information.
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)
If your primary care needs are health-related, you may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare — a package of ongoing care arranged and funded solely by the NHS. Attendance Allowance & Other Benefits
You may also be entitled to benefits such as Attendance Allowance (for those over 65 with care needs), Personal Independence Payment (PIP for those under 65), or Carer's Allowance for those caring for a loved one. These benefits can help contribute to the cost of care.

Direct Payments
Take control of your care
Direct Payments give you the freedom to choose and manage your own care. Rather than the council arranging services on your behalf, you receive money directly to purchase the care and support that best meets your individual needs.
Who Is Eligible?
Direct Payments are available to adults who have been assessed by their local authority as having eligible care needs under the Care Act 2014 and who qualify for local authority funding following a financial assessment. They are also available to parents of disabled children and to some carers.
How Do Direct Payments Work?
Once your care needs have been assessed and your eligibility confirmed, your local authority will calculate how much funding you are entitled to. This money is paid directly to you or into a managed account, and you can then use it to employ a care worker or pay a registered care agency such as Seranora Care directly.

Direct Payments put you in control. You can choose a care provider that best suits your personality, needs and preferences — such as Seranora Care — rather than being allocated a service by the council. This leads to more consistent, person-centred care that truly fits your life.

NHS Continuing Healthcare
Fully funded NHS care at home
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is a package of ongoing care that is arranged and funded entirely by the NHS for adults in England whose primary need is a health need. If you qualify, your care — including home care from a provider like Seranora Care — is fully funded by the NHS at no cost to you.
Who Is Eligible?
NHS Continuing Healthcare is for adults who have a complex medical condition and significant ongoing care needs that arise primarily from a health condition. Eligibility is not based on a specific diagnosis — it is determined by the nature, complexity, intensity and unpredictability of your care needs.
How Is Eligibility Assessed?
A multidisciplinary team (MDT) of health and social care professionals will assess your needs using the NHS Decision Support Tool. This looks at twelve care domains including behaviour, cognition, communication, mobility, nutrition, skin, breathing and medication needs. The assessment determines whether your needs meet the threshold for CHC funding.
What Does CHC Cover?
If you are eligible, NHS Continuing Healthcare covers the full cost of your care package, which may include personal care at home, nursing care, equipment and other health-related support. It is arranged by your local Integrated Care Board (ICB) and there is no means test or financial contribution required from you.
CHC and Seranora Care
Seranora Care is experienced in supporting clients who receive NHS Continuing Healthcare funding. We work closely with ICBs and care coordinators to ensure that all care is delivered in line with your agreed care plan and that all necessary documentation is maintained to the required standard.
